Edelman Selects Nasuni for Primary Storage and Data Protection

Edelman Chooses Nasuni Instead of a Refresh of its Legacy Data Protection Infrastructure, While Also Getting Centralized Storage Management, Global File Sync and 15 Minute RTOs
Nasuni®, the leading provider of cloud-scale enterprise file services, today announced that Edelman, the world’s largest public relations firm, has selected Nasuni to provide primary storage and data protection for all of the firm’s 68 global offices. The firm will save more than 50 percent by deploying Nasuni to meet its enterprise storage and data protection needs instead of using a legacy system.
Edelman was facing a common problem among public relations, advertising and media organizations: corporate data (video files, especially) is growing exponentially, increasing the complexity of managing and delivering global access to these critical files. To address the issue, Edelman was considering a refresh of its global data protection infrastructure. But given Edelman’s three-year data growth projections, a traditional vendor would have required the firm to buy almost twice the capacity it needed up front.
Edelman decided on Nasuni with Microsoft Corp’s Azure as the back-end storage cloud because Nasuni was able to provide uniform data access for all of its offices, and deliver primary storage, automatic synchronization of the entire data set and centralized storage management for all of Edelman’s global locations – all for 50 percent less than it would have had to spend on just its data protection refresh. As Edelman’s capacity needs grow, the service can scale effortlessly, adding capacity with just a few mouse clicks. And when Edelman opens new offices, IT simply deploys the appropriate Nasuni edge appliance, and everyone in the new office instantly has access to the relevant data set.
Nasuni can offer such a scalable, affordable, complete storage service because the data and the intelligence behind the solution have been liberated from devices and, instead, reside in the cloud. Unlike competing cloud-integrated storage solutions, there is no “master box”, which can act as a constraint within the system. Nasuni’s storage controllers are completely interchangeable access points to the service.
“Originally, we were looking to solve our data protection challenge,” said Ben Ribaudo, SVP, Global Infrastructure at Edelman. “Nasuni solves that problem and then some, with the ability to store an unlimited number of snapshots at no extra charge, the ability to instantly recover any version of any file from any point in time, and the ability to completely recover from a data loss incident in just 15 minutes. But, for less than half of what we would have had to spend to upgrade our existing data protection infrastructure alone, we get centralized storage management and global file synchronization. Even better, we don’t have to make a big capital spend on day one and scaling over time is simple and affordable. In the end, the decision to go with Nasuni was a no brainer.”
“Whether they’re in PR, advertising or publishing, media companies are all experiencing the same challenges: data is growing faster than the traditional storage infrastructure can scale,” said Andres Rodriguez, CEO of Nasuni. “The solution is to free data from the shackles of traditional hardware so that enterprises can take full advantage of the incredible attributes of the cloud: unlimited capacity, access from anywhere and unparalleled resiliency. This is the new model for enterprise storage. Nasuni is leading the way.”
