PRP utilizes unlimited capacity on all file types with Nasuni

About PRP

PRP is primarily an architectural practice with expertise in master planning, urban regeneration, landscape architecture, and sustainability engineering. The firm’s work spans multiple disciplines, requiring a highly collaborative and efficient IT infrastructure to support its operations.

The challenge

Before implementing Nasuni, PRP used NetApp for storage and Backup Exec for backups. This legacy infrastructure presented several challenges.

PCP faced significant challenges with its legacy IT infrastructure, which included NetApp for storage and Backup Exec. The firm frequently encountered storage capacity restrictions, requiring the IT team to spend considerable time moving data around to free up space. Opening new studios was another challenge, as it involved setting up extensive infrastructure and provisioning additional storage – a process that was both time-consuming and took up resources. Data recovery was particularly time-consuming, relying on physical tapes stored offsite, which caused delays in restoring deleted or corrupted files, slowing productivity.

Additionally, PRP’s global operations required seamless collaboration on Revit models across multiple locations, creating a critical need that the existing system struggled to support. These inefficiencies highlighted the need for a modern, scalable, collaborative storage solution.

How Nasuni helped PRP

Nasuni eliminated any storage limitations PRP was experiencing.

By migrating all unstructured data to Nasuni, PRP eliminated the need for traditional storage infrastructure and the associated time spent provisioning storage. When discussing PRP’s experience shifting to Nasuni, Nick Dunn, PRP’s IT Director, stated, “In the old days, we spent a lot of time moving data around because we had restrictions on storage. That went away overnight.”

Nasuni minimizes collaboration headaches on a global scale.

Nasuni enabled seamless collaboration on Revit models across multiple locations, enhancing productivity.

Nasuni cut down data recovery time.

With snapshots taken every five minutes and stored for two years, PRP could quickly recover files, even those deleted or corrupted up to a year prior, without the need for physical tape retrieval.

Nasuni and Nephos’ systems encouraged PRP to scale and migrate its operations successfully.

Opening new studios became faster and easier, with no need for extensive infrastructure setup. Additionally, Nasuni and partner Nephos facilitated a smooth transition, ensuring minimal impact on users.

The Nasuni Management Console is as simple as ABC.

The Nasuni Management Console (NMC) proved user-friendly and intuitive, allowing the IT team to manage the system efficiently.

Nasuni’s Snapshot technology significantly reduces downtime.

This downtime enables architects to resume work on critical projects and priorities quickly.

If a file is corrupted, we can get it back very quickly. In the past, we would be sending tapes down to an archive through a van. Now, we can recover information very quickly.

The Nasuni difference

Nasuni stood out to PRP as a customer-centric, technology-driven company that provides innovative solutions. Unlike other companies that solely prioritize sales, Nasuni focused on delivering exceptional service and resolving issues directly without passing them back to PRP, creating trust and a strong collaborative partnership. Dunn noted, “They care. If there’s a problem, they don’t pass it on to somebody else. They’ll take it on board, they’ll look at it, and they’ll work with us.”

Nasuni is committed to continuous innovation, regularly enhancing our products to meet evolving customer needs. This forward-looking vision aligned with PRP’s goals, ensuring the company’s IT infrastructure remained scalable and ready for the future.
